Northport Funeral & Cremation Service announces with deepest sympathy the passing of Mr. Robert Lewis Tucker of Tuscaloosa, AL on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at DCH-Tuscaloosa. Mr. Robert (Bob) Tucker was born on October 4, 1938, in Lanette, Ala. He was the youngest of eight children born to the late Sim and Willie Lee Tucker. Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death: John, Marvin, Jack, Mildred, Juanita, Dennis and Inez. At an early age, Bob confessed hope in Christ and remained a faithful and devoted member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church for more than 35 years where he was a 4th degree and Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville and Kentucky School of Embalming. He was a State and Nationally Licensed Embalmer with management and practical experience.His educational training and work experiences allowed him to work in various fields including manager of local funeral homes; teacher at Druid High School in Tuscaloosa and Jefferson State Community College School of Mortuary Science in Birmingham; salesman at Moore & Handley Supply Company and Townsend Ford Dealership; and a devoted volunteer at the Holy Spirit Catholic Social Services. After more than 20 years of service, he retired from Jim Walter Resources Mines.Bob answered his call home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 11, 2014, at 10:15 a.m. at DCH Regional Medical Center.He leaves to cherish a loving and devoted wife of 37 years, Ernestine Tucker; two lovely daughters, Nikki (Theodore) Freeman of Birmingham, Ala., and Nina M. Oakes of Houston, Texas; two granddaughters, Erin and Morgan Freeman of Birmingham, Ala.; nieces and nephews, Shelonda (Carl) Brown, Phil Tucker, Dorethy (Syl) Gray, Curtis Tucker, and Latricia Tucker Bell; cousins, god-daughters, godsons, friends, Eddie Mae Johnson, and a very special pet, Bailey, who loved and adored him.Bob would want to be remembered by his famous words, "Peace Be Still". Services will be 12 noon Monday, September 15, 2014, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church and private Inurnment at Holy Spirit Columbarium with Northport Funeral & Cremation Service directing. Visitation with the body lying in state will be Monday one hour prior to services at the church. In lieu of flowers as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to: Catholic Family Services, 608 James Harrison Jr. Pkwy., Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
