Mr. Melvin Hicks

Age 70

Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mr. Melvin Hicks. Mr. Hicks passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Mr. Melvin “Bull” Hicks was born in Pickens County, AL. to the late Jamie Hicks and Minnie Horton-Hicks. He confessed to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member and deacon of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church until death. Melvin graduated from Carrollton High School in 1972.

 In June 1972, he enlisted in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge at the time of separation. He then returned home, reentered the workforce as a civilian, married and began a family. In Melvin’s leisure time, he was an all-around outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and ATVing. His hunting game of choice was deer, turkey, squirrel, and rabbit. Other activities included road trips and outings with the family, visiting relatives and friends, sharing a joke, story and laughter with those around him and enjoying spending time with his beloved beagles. Melvin departed this life on January 29th, 2025, at DCH Regional Medical Center.

 He leaves to cherish his loving wife, Edna Hicks (Carrollton, AL); his two daughters, Valerie Hicks (Pensacola, FL) and Adrien (Channing) Smith (Douglasville, GA); his sister, Irene Hicks (Carrollton, AL), his grandchildren, Zay’vion Evans, Shia Evans, Jacoby Evans and Ayden Fowler (Pensacola, FL), Tanayah Betts and Taraji Smith (Douglasville, GA), a close nephew, Clifford Hill (Carrollton, AL), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Simon and his sisters Ida Simon and Cora Hicks Simmons.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 3-5pm at the Northport Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel in Reform, AL.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hicks will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 12:00pm at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Carrollton, AL. Mr. Hicks will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Carrollton, AL.
