Mr. John Hollis Baird

Age 89

Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mr. John Hollis Baird. 

John Hollis Baird, 89, of Ralph, Alabama passed away on February 7th, 2025, in Tuscaloosa, AL. surrounded by his loved ones. Hollis was born on December 4th, 1935, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Mr. Riley and Lucy Baird. He grew up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama attended Tuscaloosa High school and served four years in the US Air Force. 

Hollis retired from the University of Alabama where he worked for 27 years in the Physics Research and Development department and made a lasting impact on colleagues. Beyond his career Hollis was an extremely hard worker dedicated and determined to provide for his family. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, and he was endearingly proud of his children and grandchildren. 

He absolutely loved and adored his wife Shirley of 66 years. 

Hollis was a devoted family man, a cherished friend, and worshiped at New Hope Baptist Church. 

• Hollis is survived by his wife Shirley Baird, his daughter Rhonda Petruccelli (Greg Petruccelli) his son Roger Baird (Jennifer Baird) Robert Baird (Lori Baird) Grandchildren Zach Petruccelli, Jacob Petruccelli, Hollie Petruccelli and Mckinley Baird. Sisters, Cassandra Griffin, Alys Liddy, Hilda Boozer and Jennie McKnight.

A celebration of life will be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2 PM.

We little knew the day that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. 

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone for part of us went with you the day God called you home. 

You left us peaceful memories. Your love is still our Guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. 

Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. 

We love and miss you!!!
