Diane (Dinah) Louise Duck Cooks, 55, of Northport, Alabama peacefully passed away in her sleep on September 13, 2014. She was born June 5, 1959 in Alexander City, but resided in Dadeville, Al. Dinah graduated from Dadeville High School in 1978. She lived overseas for a brief time in Wiesbaden, Germany with her two children. Dinah then moved to Fort Meade, Maryland where she worked in management at the local Officer's Club for a number of years. In 1996 she moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama with her children to be closer to family. She graduated from Shelton State Community College in 2003 with a degree in Practical Nursing. Dinah was continuing her life long education at the University of Alabama while enrolled at the School of Social Work at the time of her death. Dinah was preceded in death by her mother, Mary June Bailey Nelson Duck and by her father, Justin Duck. She is survived by her two sons Eric Cooks (Laura) and Marcus Cooks of Northport, Alabama; one granddaughter, Isabella; two sisters, Ann Nelson Marshall of Huntsville, Alabama and Elizabeth (Pam) Duck Cowan of Texarkana, Arkansas; one uncle, Pete Bailey (Marlene) of Alexander City; four nieces, Rachel Marshall (Paul) of Huntsville, Alabama, Leah Wilson (Adrian), Laci Clayton Nowlin (Rodney), and Layde Clayton of Texarkana, Arkansas; four great nieces, Kaelin, Layla, Alyse and June; five great nephews, Rodney Jr., Dylan, Trae, Clay, and Cassidy, along with many cousins and beloved friends. Dinah loved to watch movies, documentaries, and stand up comedy; she loved to discuss social issues and was an avid reader. She most enjoyed spending time with her family whom she loved dearly and enjoyed cooking, singing and listening to music. A public memorial service will be held at The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Tuscaloosa Sunday September 21,2014 at 3pm.
